Art attempts to trap an emotion, memory or idea, which can be shared with or be re-interpreted by others. The present works express the artist’s dismay at the way in which we are ignoring the effects of climate change on others. As the sea level rises many Pacific islands are being swamped.
The ‘faces’ in the present paintings and sculptures are based on the artist’s interpretation of works of art which came from these islands. Little is being done to preserve the cultures from which such works originated; rather jokes, such as ‘There are going to be a lot of Wet Feet’, are made about the consequences of the rising sea levels.
